Greta Fitchett
Quiltmaker and Creative Textile Artist
I draw my inspiration from a variety of sources, including places visited, architecture, nature, and museum collections. I am particularly interested in the diversity of colour, patterns and texture I have observed around the world. I also draw ideas from the British coast and landscape.
My quilt making techniques have their roots in traditional skills, variously combined with the use of strong colour for abstract and graphic effect. I use a mixture of plain, patterned and batik materials sometimes including my own hand-dyed fabric.

My professional background is in Graphic Design, Product Design and Engineering Illustration. As Artist/Designer for a UK based architectural clocks company, my designs, both traditional and contemporary have been placed across the UK and overseas.
My interests include travel, the arts, and architecture. Sketching on location is my own artistic preference, as this to me gives me the most tangible connection with the places I visit. Also evident in my work is my lifelong interest in railways, as a subject for drawing and also as a means of combining my interest in urban architecture in the form of model making. I am also venturing into the realm of quiltmaking.
